Two female victims who were abducted and featured in a viral video that sparked national indignation were successfully recovered by the Ghana Police Service in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and the National Signals Bureau (NSB). One of the victims was beaten with a machete while naked in the unsettling video, which went viral on social media. Security agencies acted quickly after the video alarmed the public.
Eight suspects have been taken into custody in relation to the kidnapping, the Ghana Police said in a statement released on Thursday, confirming the victims' rescue. The arrests took place in a number of hiding places in Ghana and Nigeria. Nigerian ringleader busted A female employee of the Port Harcourt International Airport Security (AVSEC), Okoribe Olohitare Ejeme, was detained yesterday as one of the ringleaders of the kidnapping syndicate.
The Nigerian Police Force and the Ghana Police Service, via the National Signals Bureau (NSB), worked together to arrest Ms. Ejeme. "The two female abduction victims who were caught on camera and went viral have been rescued by the Ghana Police Service, in cooperation with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force," the statement said. "So far, eight (8) suspects have been apprehended from their hiding places in Ghana and Nigeria in connection with the crime."
The police also stated that as investigations proceed, more information on the rescue effort will be released to the public. The combined action by the security services has been widely praised, and the Ghana Police have expressed their gratitude to the Nigeria Police Force and the NSB. The statement also stated that the Ghana Police Service was "extremely grateful to the Nigeria Police Force and the NSB for their cooperation and support in the rescue and arrest operations."
Ama Serwaa Konadu, 39, a prominent hairdresser and event decorator in Asiakwa, Abuakwa South Municipality, Eastern Region, was one among the victims kidnapped on April 22, 2025. According to reports, she had left home for work when she was taken prisoner by unidentified males. The next day, her captors used her own phone to send many naked videos of her to family members, requesting GH₵500,000 in ransom to free her. She seemed really traumatized and was shown being physically abused in the recordings.
The Ghana Police and other national security agencies received an official complaint from the victim's family, and they immediately began an investigation with assistance from Nigerian authorities.
