According to ACP Kofi Sarpong, Open To Secular Collaborations ACP

Kofi Sarpong, a gospel artist and Ghanaian police officer, is paving the way for innovative collaborations that many in the gospel industry still cautiously consider.

In a candid interview on The Career Trail on Joy Learning TV and JoyNews, the ‘Enti Owura’ singer highlighted his readiness to collaborate with secular artists, pushing customary limits in Ghana’s music industry. He declared, "I will not hesitate if the opportunity arises or if the time comes, I will not hesitate at all." ACP Sarpong, who is renowned for fusing faith with artistic expression, clarified that his openness is a result of a more comprehensive comprehension of the function of music. He fought against the strict division between gospel and secular categories, describing music as a global language that expresses wisdom, life lessons, and lived experiences.

"Every word that we combine and add rhythm to create music is a language that we speak or an experience that we have. We learn about marriage and the proper way for couples to live from Solomon's songs. There are proverbs and motivations. Therefore, I don't understand why we should even assert that we have drawn the line between the gospel and the secular," he said. He admitted to the allure of some secular songs, saying that even he can't help but be drawn in by their beats. "You can't stand the beat of some of these secular songs," he continued.

ACP Sarpong remained engaged and empathetic in spite of the conventional skepticism about such partnerships, especially in gospel circles. He emphasized that dismissing secular musicians as "worldly" without interacting with them reduces the chance to spread the message and create deep relationships. "How will you get these individuals to where you want them to be if we don't go to them or even get close to them, even if we think they are what we think they are? Because of the attitude we have formed toward them, we are unable to retain even those who are in the church, so we let them leave," he said.

He clarified that his openness does not mean he disregards the concerns of those who hold more conservative views. However, for ACP Sarpong, collaboration, especially when aimed at uplifting youth, can be a powerful force for good.

“If we are to do something that will especially encourage the youth and motivate others, I will do,” he affirmed.

Even so, he emphasized that lyrical content would remain a non-negotiable in deciding whether to participate in a project. While open to breaking barriers, his values, he insists, must still guide the message in the music.
