Full list of phones WhatsApp will no longer work on from May 2025

WhatsApp Blacklist: Is YOUR Phone on the Chopping Block in May 2025? 😱
Tech Alert! If you're still rocking an older smartphone, it's time to pay close attention. WhatsApp has announced a major compatibility update that could leave your device unable to access the popular messaging app starting May 5th, 2025!
This isn't just a minor glitch – it's a definitive end of support for phones running outdated operating systems that can no longer keep up with WhatsApp's evolving features and security standards. Think of it as WhatsApp saying goodbye to devices that can't handle the modern digital highway.
Are you at risk of being WhatsApp-less? While the majority of users with newer devices won't be affected, those holding onto older models, some dating back over a decade, need to check this crucial list NOW to avoid being caught off guard.
Here's the lowdown on which phones are facing the WhatsApp axe:
iPhone Users, Take Note! If your iPhone can't update beyond iOS 15.0, WhatsApp will stop working on it after May 5th. This unfortunately includes:
 * iPhone 5s
 * iPhone 6
 * iPhone 6 Plus
These beloved, older iPhones are capped at iOS 12.5.7 and won't meet WhatsApp's new minimum requirement of iOS 15.1. So, while they might still make calls, their WhatsApp days are numbered!
Android Users: The Deadline Already Passed! For Android users, the cutoff was January 1st, 2025. WhatsApp has already ceased support for phones running Android 4.4 (KitKat) or older. Some of the affected models include:
 * Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
 * Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Moto E (2014), Razr HD
 * HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
 * LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
 * Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
How to Know if Your Phone is Safe:
The good news is, checking is easy!
 * iPhone: Go to Settings > General > About > Software Update. If your iOS version is 15.1 or higher, you're safe!
 * Android: Go to Settings > About phone (or System) > Software information (or Android version). If your Android version is 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher, you're good to go!
What Happens if Your Phone is Affected?
If your device is on the list, you'll unfortunately need to upgrade to a newer smartphone to continue using WhatsApp seamlessly. WhatsApp will likely send you notifications within the app leading up to the deadline, reminding you to update your device.
Why the Change?
WhatsApp's decision to drop support for older operating systems is driven by the need to enhance security, improve performance, and implement the latest features (like multi-device support, AI integration, and enhanced privacy). Older phones simply lack the technical capabilities to keep up.
Don't get caught in the WhatsApp blackout! Check your phone's software version today and ensure you stay connected! Share this with friends and family who might still be using older devices!
