Ghana Government Increases Producer Price of Cocoa for 2025/2026 Season

The Ministry of Finance has announced a significant increase in the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 crop season. A press release dated August 4, 2025, revealed that the government, through the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), has approved a new producer price of US$5,040 per tonne, up from the previous US$3,100 per tonne — representing an impressive 62.58% increase in dollar terms.

This new price ensures cocoa farmers receive 70% of the gross Free-On-Board (FOB) value, aligning with President Mahama’s commitment to give cocoa farmers a fairer share of international market prices. The gross FOB value for the 2025/2026 season was set at US$7,200 per tonne, based on outstanding cocoa contracts and market forecasts.

In cedi terms, the producer price per tonne will increase from GHS49,600 to GHS51,660, equivalent to GHS3,228.75 per 64-kilogram bag of cocoa, calculated at an average exchange rate of GHS10.25 to the US dollar.

This new price will take effect from Thursday, August 7, 2025, marking the start of the 2025/2026 cocoa season.

The Ministry emphasized that this decision aims to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers, recognizing their contribution to Ghana’s economy, and to sustain the country's position as one of the world’s leading cocoa producers.
